I use WordPress for our organization’s intranet. WP runs on a Linux Server (16.04 LTS). There are pdf files on a Windows Server (2016) that I need to link to in order for staff to access them. I do not want the pdf’s imported into WP because they need to be added/deleted/edited by many staff members. From the Linux Server I can access the pdf file directory by browser using smb://servername/folder/filename and open the files. The problem: I cannot find a link format in WP that will open these files.

  • Two options you have is to either configure the Windows as a Web or a FTP server.

After that, you can configure the folder where the PDF is located to be accessed either by chosen protocol(FTP or HTTP), and then link the file address in the WordPress at the Linux server.

You can use the native IIS service or a WAMP installation to activate the Web server.
To the FTP, you can use the native option or any other software such as Filezilla (server version).

ahhh…and I should have figured that out myself. Our original install, same setup Linux to Windows Server worked…because the Windows Server had a WAMP server on it. I never put that together. Thank you very, very much!
