    I’m fixing a site for a family friend and they originally had a php based website that was hosted through godaddy. I’m working on a new version with the version of wordpress that is installed through godaddy itself. I’m new to using this version and I can’t seem to figure out how to make the new wordpress version the primary. I found some info about mapping the domain name to the wordpress site. Is that the only way to make this work or is there another alternative?

    There are many ways people do that, and you need to know how your host’s servers are configured and/or how they do things in order to do that properly.

    I can’t seem to figure out how to make the new wordpress version the primary.

    Find out exactly where your domain is already landing and then do either of these:

    1. Either put all wp-folders and wp-files in that location and then tell your database what URL to expect coming in and what to use for telling WordPress where to find things
    –or–
    2. Redirect your domain URL to wherever WordPress is already installed.

    Here is a situation a bit more complicated than yours yet nevertheless nearly identical:
