• I would have searched for an answer to this, but I don’t even know where to begin.

On the index page, the post titles link to pages that do not exist on my site. The first post links to https://www.mydomain.com/index.php. Every other title links to a page using the permalink structure that I set, but those pages come up with a 404 error as well.

I am using the relaxations 3 column theme, but don’t know where to troubleshoot this – in the theme or in WordPress itself. Did I configure something incorrectly or forget to set something?

    Thanks!

Update: none of the links anywhere on the pages work. Links to categories, both underneath posts and in the navigation area don’t work, nor do Archive links. The only links that work are the Edit links and any backend stuff (login, site admin, etc.)

    1. A link would be extremely useful to try to help you.
    2. If you delete everything from the fields in the Permalinks option page AND click update options – does it work? [if yes, there is a problem with the permalink settings]

Geez, end of day brain-fry…the link is:
    https://brooklynrd.pixel-artstudio.com

I took the permalink structure out, and that fixed the navigation links in most of the left-hand nav, and the Post title links for all but the most recent post.

Some links still go to pixel-artstudio.com/index.php.

    Thanks so much!

That’s because your clickable header (linking to index.php) is too big=high, and is “covering” some links at the top of the page. You think you click on the post title but actually you are clicking the huge header with the home-link ??

I have a problem where none of the links work – I know why, just not sure where to fix it/what I did to mess it up.

None of the links include the index.php in the path, so a link that should be, for example:

    https://quarter-flash.com/index.php/2005/10/17/doing-research/

    is actually:

    https://quarter-flash.com/2005/10/17/doing-research/

Pointers on where to look to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Check what you have in the two URI fields in the Options > General (should end with a folder name, never a filename!)
    Check the Permalink settings.
Are you on a Win server?

    wordpress uri: https://quarter-flash.com
    blog uri: https://quarter-flash.com

No, I’m on debian, but I’m betting that I don’t have the mod_rewrite installed in apache.

Thanks, I’m pretty sure I know what I need to do now.

OK, so my last post was correct iff “pretty sure” == “don’t have a clue” ??

I did the expedient thing – added /index.php in the permalink structure.

I did update *a* .htaccess file, I’m guessing I need to do some reading to know exactly *which* directory that file is supposed to be in as it didn’t appear to make any difference.

As far as I can tell mod_rewrite is being loaded – it’s in modules.conf and the file exists. So, for now the problem is resolved and I have some research to do to sort out how to resolve it properly.

    Thanks again for the pointer.

The .htaccess file should be in the WP root directory.
