After updating the MailPoet software to 2.6.17 and sending a newsletter with MailPoet today, the links in the newsletter don’t work anymore.

Accessing the archive page of the newsletter in a browser shows that the links are correct (and working). The problem seems to be related to the tracking ids, MailPoet is adding to the URLs when sending the newsletter. I’ve checked older newsletters. In the browser everything is okay, but after sending them, every clicked external link now leads to a “404 Not Found”.

As it has worked with the former version of MailPoet, the problem might be related to the recent bugfix (“Enhanced redirection check in email URLs.”)?

Any idea? Is it just me?

    Best,
    Frank

  • This issue is not resolved.

2.6.17 which is critically broken is still being made available for updates and new installs. No fixed update has been made available.

Honestly, as a fellow producer of paid WordPress plugins and as a paid customer of MailPoet, this is pretty disgraceful.

Here’s the patched file for the links issue: stats.zip

Just replace this file over the existing one at wp-content/plugins/wysija-newsletters/controllers/front/stats.php

I second pjv. Your performance in this fiasco has been disgraceful.
I am going to get in touch with the repository admins and ask them to remove 2.6.17 from the repository as it DEFINITELY breaks all external links in newsletters.
I bet that some users are not even aware that is happening if they don’t bother testing the actual links.
Why can’t you just release an updated version that works instead of us having to fix the plugin package ourselves?

To anyone reading this: Do NOT update, under any circumstances to version 2.6.17. Consider yourself warned!

So I tried to overwrite the stats.php file with the new version as supplied above. Fortunately I kept the previous version, as this one gives me an even worse PHP error.

Hello, thanks for the patch. It is working fine now.

    Hi!

    It’s working fine here too.

    Thanks!

when i put in links in my newsletters the adress is changed to things like : https://villavita-essen.de/naturheilverfahren/?email_id=130&user_id=0&demo=1& amp;urlpassed=aHR0cHM6Ly95b3V0dS5iZS9GQkhDY0VjbVdhRQ%253D%253D&controller=stats&action=analyse&wysija-page=1&wysijap=subscriptions
and people cannot open the original link. what is the problem?

Thank you so much…It’s working after replaced patch(stat.php) file.

5 days later, 2.6.17 still latest shipping version of the plugin, still critically broken.

I also noticed that the latest version 2.6.17 was messing up my left sidebar in WordPress. The clickable links were jumping up and down when I wanted to click on them. The problem disappeared when I rolled back to the previous version of mailpoet.
Are you guys working on this?
Can you give us an update please? That would be much appreciated ??

    New version is out 2.6.18

    And still not working?

What is wrong with the new version? I haven’t updated yet.

Too many people replying with different issues on this topic. Please create a new one, we won’t be checking this one anymore.

This is a too easy way not to deal with this critical issue, i.e. links in sent Newsletter not working with MailPoet 2.6.17 AND 2.6.18.

You answered yesterday with this new version as if it was a solution to this issue in this post. The new version doesn’t resolve this critical error. So where is your solution? Where is your user-friendliness?

None of the 3 predefined links (see newsletter in browser, unsubscribe, modify profile) in the newsletters sent by mail work correctly. They STILL all give a 404-error.

I don’t see any answer from your side.

Furthermore I opened already yesterday a new thread concerning this critical issue: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/links-in-sent-newsletter-not-working-in-version-2618?replies=1 (admittedly wrongly placed).

Just created another one at the right spot: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/links-in-sent-newsletter-not-working-with-mailpoet-2618?replies=1

However, now that your administrative problems are resolved (= a new thread has been created at the right place), I hope that a solution will follow immediately, in the form of a correct working new version.
