Links in the Frontpage sections

    1. Our wordpress site is in a sub-directory “public”. We set a link in the Frontpage Services section for a specific Services Box to point to a category of posts by using “/category/services/planning”. On the web site this attempts to link to a non-existent page “https://www.oursite.com.au/category/services/planning/” instead of the correct “https://www.oursite.com.au/public/category/services/planning/”.

    Do I have to hand edit in the “public” subdirectory into these service box links? That’s not so good if we happen to change the subdirectory in the future.

    2. Is there a way to put links into the team member boxes in the Team section? We’d like to link directly to social media accounts for each team member.

    Sorry Harshvardhan, should have put that “oursite” bit in inverted commas or squiggle brackets – was just an example.

    As for my previous question (on blog template) I’ll advise when site is available online – hopefully tomorrow.

    Hi Harshvardhan,

    Try https://www.businessclarity.net.au/test/ – please note we’re part way through converting a Joomla site to WordPress (and updating look and feel in the process) so not all links, etc, are working.

    The ones I wanted to know about most are the links from the services section on the Frontpage. The menu links (which are in the page source as the full address) work just fine but the ones from the service boxes (which are relative links) don’t.

    Let me know if you need any more info.

    Hi Swapnil,
    Thanks for posting that link. Putting WordPress in a subdirectory and then appearing to serve off the root is not what I’m trying to do. I have a number of other applications to serve off the site so it’s easier to manage if I put each of them in their own subdirectory. For the same reason rewriting through htaccess does not appeal as it means the rewrites have to start knowing about specific WordPress terms (eg category) and even individual slugs.

    I’m don’t understand why WordPress won’t work with relative links or won’t convert relative links (in the post content or elsewhere) into absolute links when it serves the page. Settings=>General does have “WordPress Address (URL)” and Site Address (URL)” parameters so it has all the info needed.
    If I create just same plain old ordinary html pages with relative links they work exactly as expected. But not in WordPress.

    Oh well, it is what it is, I suppose. I’ll just put “/mywordpresssubdirectoryname/” in front of all my relative links.
