I’m putting up a site (StopMeasureC.org) for a local election issue Something is going horribly wrong and I need know if it can be fixed quickly or if it unavoidable with WordPress themes.

I use Firefox and everything seemed OK as I started putting it together. BUT, Turns out the menus don’t work in IE, and I’m horrified to find that in in Chrome I get links inserting themselves into text words.

    Please help!

  • The links may be a browser addon – check Chrome.

For the other, you’ll need to post a link to the site.

No, neither is inherent to WP themes.

Outstanding! You solved the worst one of the two.

An extension in Chrome called “GetSavin 5.0” was the culprit. It’s also in IE9 and also refered to as “AdPeak GetSavin 5.0″”, but it cannot be disabled in IE. I uninstalled it in W7 control panel. Oddly enough, that seemed to active a dormant InfoAtoms extension in IE – but uninstalled it in W7 control panel also.

However the link issue in IE9 persists. Example:
https://stopmeasurec.org/ –> click on “Get Involved”, and the drop down menu does not allow a selection.

    Any thoughts?

Cool – those things are SOO annoying.

On the IE thing – weird – but then again, IE sucks. I don’t have it so I can’t really test it myself, but make sure you’ve cleared any browser caches and any on your site as well. I can’t see anything obvious, but try removing the exclamation point on the “Get Involved!” – yeah, that’s how dumb IE is – LOL.

If that doesn’t work, try deleting that menu item and redoing it.

I’ve just noticed that in Firefox and Chrome, the menu color changes during mouseover. I also found a comment on another site referring to IE issues with opacity settings < 100 ( https://stackoverflow.com/questions/7168495/why-does-my-drop-down-css-based-menu-not-work-in-ie9 ), but I couldn’t figure out how to see if I could try the fix on my system.

NEW FIND: I right-clicked over the top menu to select the W7 Properties, but instead I slid the mouse over off the W7 menu and onto the webpage menu – it actually let me select the sub-page!

Did you try what I suggested? Isn’t this just on the one menu? Also try deactivating any plugins and switching to the default theme.

Sorry, I forgot to mention the new menu try…. I had deleted the menu and made a new one as you suggested, but that did not help. (I even was desperate enough to try the “!” elimination – but no luck. Plugins are all deactivated – with no effect.

Ill try the defaults tomorrow and for the time being I put a note on the site recommending Firefox & Chrome. (I’m getting a bit punchy and don’t want to start making dumb mistakes.)

THANK YOU SO MUCH for identifying the browser plug issue I had, and for taking the time to help me with this.

No problem – glad we at least got one thing solved. And sleep is always good :)! I gotta do that soon too — I’m in Santa Clara, BTW – we’re almost neighbors (at least in this global forum scale)!

BTW – I’m just north of you in Marin County.

Solved – Turns out there was a known CSS problem the designers were working on. They planed on fixing it in an update, but they sent me a link to a new CSS file, so when I put that in everything cleared up.

Thanks again for all the help!

Ah – argh – nothing like going crazy over someone else’s bug – LOL! Glad they got it sorted and you’re back in business. You’re welcome and good luck!
