• I’ve never encountered this, but on my site I am trying to link headlines (h2 and h3) to external sites. I am able to do so, but every time I save it, the links are disappearing!

Also of note: it’s adding extra spaces between line breaks that I have to keep removing.

I can’t find anything on this. I’ve deactivated all plugins, my WP is the latest version. My theme is build on the Genesis Framework. I’m at a loss.

    Any insights are appreciated! TIA!

I’m thinking it must be issues with the visual editor.

I was able to style the post within the text editor, but I couldn’t toggle between the visual and text editor or the coding was lost again.

Again – the only formatting that is is screwing with is stripping the links in the h2 and h3 tags (it keeps the links within paragraphs) and adding spaces between page lines.

I had already checked the list and didn’t see this as a known issue, but still thought it might possibly be an issue for others. And I’ve done all of the suggestions except reinstall WP manually.

    I assume that’s the final answer…

    thanks, Esmi.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    same problem:

did clean WP 3.5 install, used the sample page to enter five paragraphs (each one word), made 2nd and 4th paragraph H3 and then linked them, switched to text view and back – links are gone, replaced with

@esmi – you have already closed one similar topic without giving any real help and accusing people (who have described ways to reproduce the problem) of hijacking the topic, all I did was fulfill all your requests (by making a clean install) and report on being able to reproduce the problem.

But I agree that also I should have done more research before commenting – apparently this is a bug, there is a ticket https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/22888 and the bug is fixed in 3.5.1 that is currently in beta (tested – problem is solved).

So while it is NOT good idea to use beta versions on live sites – updating to nightly build (manually or using https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wordpress-beta-tester/) fixes the problem.

you have already closed one similar topic

Then it was either closed, one of a pair (or more) of duplicate topics created by a single poster, an old topic or one that was being repeatedly hijacked (rather like you are doing now). Have you acquainted yourself with the forum rules? As per that page, please post your own topics. Posting in an existing topic prevents us from being able to track issues by topic – which means less effective help for you. So please help us to help you and post a new topic when we ask you to.

Yes, I know the rules. Been running forums since ’89.

Rule #1 – search first (did, found), Rule #2 start new topic unless you are 100% sure this is the same issue (I am, for both threads and the mentioned ticket)

The thread you closed (https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/problems-with-heading-and-links-wordpress-35?replies=9) provided useful information and was updated by users with suggestions that helped me to provide temporary fix for client.

I am now following the one of the last rules and tagging this thread with modlook – please have another moderator solve our dispute off-forum, as otherways this will be last time I am to contribute here.

    Yes, I know the rules.

The patch for the problem is small enough that you could probably patch a copy of 3.5 manually.

Esmi — actually peskratts response was very helpful for me. Knowing that it wasn’t just something on my site and that it’s fixed on the next release is good info for me to have.

As I had already done all of the suggestions you had made, without success, I think I’ll just watch the ticket linked above and wait for the update. It’s a pain, but I can manage my frustration with it more now, knowing that it’s being fixed.

    Thanks all.
