In Gutenberg paragraph blocks (and lists) if I add a link and set it to “open in a new tab” the code outputs the link with aria-label=”undefined (opens in a new tab)”. Not great for accessibility.

    See the link Bullet Creative on this page: https://www.surreyhillsarts.org/contact/
    Bullet Creative.

    This seems to have just started happening for new edits across a few of my sites. All running the latest versions of WP and Yoast: WP (v5.4.2) and Yoast (v14.5). If I disable Yoast all is fine.

    It’s only happening on Pages for me, not on Posts or custom post types. Have searched but think it’s a new issue, I can’t see any tips. Yoast seems to be overriding the Link panel options, as it’s also adding “Search engines should ignore this link…” and “This is a sponsored link or advert…”. Ideally I don’t want Yoast adding options to the WP link panel, I’d rather stick with the default. But can’t see any way of turning this off.

    Any ideas appreciated. Thx

    Hi

    Can you confirm that this is occurring with WordPress 5.4.2, a default theme such as TwentyTwenty, and only Yoast SEO for WordPress v14.5 enabled?

    Just to confirm, the issue is that it’s outputting:

    target=”_blank” aria-label=”undefined (opens in a new tab)” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Bullet Creative

    When you set the option to open in a new tab for a link? But this only occurs for your pages but not for your posts? Could you let us know what it outputs for posts?

    Just to be sure, we would like to rule out any plugin or theme conflicts that may occur. The fastest way to do this is to?deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme?like?Twenty Nineteen.?

    Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the?Health Check & Troubleshooting?plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check?without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    As we can imagine that you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process:?How to check for plugin conflicts.

    The nofollow & sponsored link option setting was introduced in Yoast SEO 14.4 — https://yoast.com/yoast-seo-14-4/

    Should be fixed in Yoast 14.7 per this PR: https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/pull/15660

    Sounds like it’s a known issue and the fix is coming in 14.7. Thanks for the info @djennez. Can confirm it’s happening on a fresh, latest WP install, current v5.4.2 version of Yoast, with TwentyTwenty theme, no other plugins, no conflicts. Double checked on the fresh install and the error is happening on both Pages and Posts. Thanks

    @kathybarber Thanks for confirming. As this is already an issue that’s being addressed in an upcoming release we’re going ahead and marking this as resolved, but please let us know if you require any further assistance.
