I’m just curious as I’m considering this plugin…

You mentioned you can set access to files based on subscriber, roles, etc. Are permalinks assigned to the files, like they are to images, so that after someone logs out, they still have access if they know the url?

Am I asking that correctly? lol I just want to make sure I have control over who has access to the content and WHEN they have access to the content (i.e. logged in).

    Thanks in advance!

Not permalinks, as in the WordPress term. Just links. Yes, direct links. The files are simply stored wherever you want them on your host server. If you want to secure your server directories with a password, that is something you would do on the hosting side of things. This displays the directories you want to display, to the people you want to display them to. File Away does not provide encryption or anything like that, if that’s what you’re looking for. There are numerous plugins that provide dummy download links, usually for purchased downloads. That’s not what File Away does. If your information is super-sensitive, the internet really isn’t the place for it.

Just as a follow up, there is a “nolinks” feature, that removes the links from the files. But then users aren’t able to download them either, or view the file contents. That feature is simply for showing users that have uploaded files that their files were successfully uploaded.
