• Hi there!

    Here’s my site: https://aminearlythereyet.com.

I noticed earlier today that the links in my main menu to the categories are not working and coming up with ‘404 Page not found’.

The Destinations ? Travel Stuff ? Travel Photography ? Food etc links are pointed to categories. All the top nav links are to PAGES…and these work fine.

I have no idea how long is have been the case, but I’ve recently updated a few plug-ins on my site.

Trawling the forums, I see that some people have issues with their permalinks. I haven’t changed this in a long time and is currently set to /%postname%/.

I have just updated to the new version of WordPress to see if this has any effect.

From what I gather, I do not have any plugins that would effect my categories. Should I turn them all off and try?

I hope you guys can help! Thank you very much!
    Stu

  • It worked for me.. then it didn’t… odd

    https://aminearlythereyet.com/destinations/india/

    doesn’t work

but the first time I clicked it went to

    https://aminearlythereyet.com/category/destinations/india/

    that did work

Is that a custom menu? Like manually set up through the menu creator? YOu might want to try with no plugins. Also go to the permalinks settings page, and just hit save without changing anything to reset your permalinks

    Update:

The Yoast WordPress SEO plugin is the problem.

I disabled it, and the categories worked. When I turned it off, the links looked like this:
.com/catagory/whatever whereas before the ‘category’ wasn’t there and it was just .com/whatever

There is an option to strip the category base within the plugin…and that option is ticked.

hummm. Thoughts? I’d like to have the category base removed.

    Thanks
