links with multiple link categories?

I’d like to assign more than one category to each of my links. Here’s my links page, with the great linkspage plugin activated.

But it’d be super to be able to have those links categorised under, say, geographical location, as well as those categories I have already assigned. Does this make sense?

I did some searching around, and found this thread, which seems to have finished over a year ago.

I wonder if any progress has been made in this department since then?
