Maybe you can try the Multi Feed Reader plugin, it provides shortcode

[multi-feed-reader template="myfeeds"]

which you can put in the shortcode widget to display latest posts from multiple sites/subsites

I already use the Diamond Multi Site Widget which works perfectly. I hasn’t been updated for a couple of years, so I have my eyes open for other options. If your plugin could have done both (just one subsite and multiple) I could have used it for two things I’m looking for.

This plugin solves only one purpose, for which its built, i.e. allow the use of shortcodes in widget using “Shortcode Widget”.

Adding some default shortcodes will simply increase the size of the plugin, and I don’t think most people using this plugin would need that functionality either. So I’d like to keep it simple the way it is.

About using multiple plugins, there isn’t any performance impact if you use this plugin in conjunction with other plugin to provide you with a shortcode that you can use in ShortCode widget and I’d say, that is the way to go.

If you want, I can simply go through a few plugins like that and provide you with the one that is written optimally.

If you know one on top off your head: shoot, but don’t spend time on finding one for me. It’s not like I have a malfunctioning website, but -like I said- I keep my eyes open so that I may have an alternative when the unfortunate day comes that Diamond stops working (just like I installed your plugin because the previous one I used for this stopped working). That’s bound to happen with plugins that aren’t maintained. Therefor every plugin is a risk and I prefer to use as little as I can.
