    Hi support!

I am trying to figure out how to get list of available rooms on a sub page after submiting the search form located on a home page, just like on the demo VikBooking website. Currently i get my results on the same page where i have created a search from (home page). Simplifying – search form on a home page, results on a sub-page.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Thanks for your message. We believe to have understood that you are only looking for a way to start the booking process on a page that isn’t the home page, but rather something like “/book-now”. You are not looking to having the search results on a new tab, as that would require a modification of the search form widget/shortcode to add a blank “target” attribute.

We always suggest using Widgets in your home page and never Shortcodes for this exact reason. Shortcodes identify a page on your website, and so that URL will be kept across the whole booking process. Instead, if you had published the “Search Form” widget in your home page (rather than the Shortcode), then you could have used the apposite parameter “page” to choose the action of the form, hence the landing page URL from which the booking process will start.

If you wish to use the “Search Form” Shortcode, then you should publish it on a different page than the “home page”, or the URL routing functions will not work properly.

    We hope this is helpful!

    Thanks for the response.

The problem is that I think my theme do not support widgets. Do you have any alternatives?

    Hi,

Widgets should be available as native WordPress functions, but your Theme should support sidebars at least. In case you would like to consider an alternative solution, then the only thing we can suggest is to display a “Book Now” button in the home page that will take the users to the page containing the “Search Form” Shortcode on a different page (not the home page, where Shortcodes should not be used).

This would require an extra step/click for your guests, but at least you will have a dedicated page to start the booking process at a URL like “/book-now”.

Do you know if VikBooking is compatible with Gutenify theme? When I switch to “Twenty Twenty-One” theme i can see VikBooking widgets in the “Widgets” section on my side bar but when i switch to some newer theme for example “Twenty Twenty-Two” or “Gutenify” i can not see Widgets section on my sidebar and I can only see a “VikBooking shortcode” in the “block” -> “widgets” section in a site editor. https://gutenify.com/documentations/can-not-find-customizer-widget-and-menu-option-in-backend/

    Hi,

This is not really a matter of being compatible or not, the thing is that some Themes use the new block editors with “FSE” (Full Site Editing) features, where widgets are called “Legacy Widgets” for the Sidebars.

Our plugins are fully compatible with any WordPress Theme, but when it’s about widgets, you either need to publish them on a sidebar, or you need a third-party plugin, usually a page-builder plugin, that allows you to publish the so called “Legacy Widgets” on any section of your pages.

For the moment our widgets are still considered as “Legacy Widgets”, and they are not available as a specific block type. As you’ve noticed, only Shortcodes are available as blocks. For this reason, if you wish to use a Theme that does not support Sidebars or Legacy Widgets, then the only solution is to use a plugin that allows you to publish such widgets within the content of your pages. Most page-builder plugins allow this functionality.
