List post titles in archives

I have an archives page that lists each month’s entries, for example:
October 2004
September 2004
August 2004
When you click on a month, you are taken to the entire month’s worth of entries, starting at the end of the month.
What I would like to do is when you click on the month, have the titles of the posts–not the entire post–displayed. You could then click on the title to view individual posts.
That’s basically what I’m after. If I could add an exceprt from the content and author information, that’d be icing on the cake.
I apologize if this information is already on these boards; I searched this board and the wiki for about an hour and came up with nothing. I appreciate any help.
