List view with recurring events to only show once.

I love how easy this plugin is to customize. I am using for events on a church site. While most events are a one time thing some are recurring (like a six week study) and whether it is on the events page or the ministry area’s page i.e. children. I would like the recurring events to only show once.
Right now I am not using the recurring due to the multiple listings but adding them in manually
On the events section of a page I used this code
[events_list limit=”5″ category=”24″ ]I found this link and although I haven’t tried the code it works for listing all events so that would be great for the events page but for the pages that only list by category I couldn’t get to work.
You can see here how I want the to look. I manually entered move and groove but the other two are events manager. I would love to use this for all events just to make management of events easier.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS I presented this at a local WP Users meeting as a great events plugin and it really is.
