Listing future events with thumb

  • I’d like to display my event posts like this site does.

    As you see every post ends with a the 5 next events.
    Moreover, they have a page ‘Programma’ with ALL the future events an a page ‘Archivio’ with ALL the past events (grouped by month).
    All the post previews are showed with a thumbnail.

    Any idea of how to do that?
    Do they use any specific plugin or it’s just a big customization of the template?
    1. how to organize post by date?
    2. how to show thumbnails in post previews?

    NB: I’m quite sure they started from a blueprint template..
