• Hello:
We are in the process of setting up a non-profit organization which will rely heavily on our website to manage the organization. The function of the organization is to distribute training in breastfeeding medicine to medical professionals.
The functions required of the website are complex and I am in the process of writing the specifications and seeking a contractor to assist with its development. We are leaning heavily toward using WordPress.
However, in the meantime I need to setup a mailing list to serve members who have already joined. I see that there are a number of mailing list apps out there. Dada Mail, Sympa, and GroupServer all have potential. Ideally it would be nice to integrate membership in the listserv with the main database of the organization, but its not critical.
Anyone have experience with these apps or recommendations for others?
    Thanks much.

  • I’m sorry but this has nothing to do with WordPress itself.

Clearly I am looking for an app that works well with WordPress.
“Nothing to do” is an absolute, thus inaccurate, categorization of my post.

Is the mailing list going to be set up outside of WordPress (which is what your first post implies)? If not, wouldn’t it be better to get WordPress installed first?

Perhaps it would be better to install WP first, but I don’t have that option.

I have seen other posts that mention using Dada Mail along with WP (even an old post on this forum) and am hoping to get some current insight from other users. In particular, perhaps the database can be shared so members of our organization might automatically be added/removed from the listserv based on the status of their membership. It is also possible that there is something out there that I haven’t found.

The idea here is to share experiences for the benefit of everyone.
Of course there must be a threshold for something being off topic, but if you make it unreasonably narrow, you will put helpful people off. FWIW, I’m sure I’ve posted over a thousand answers to graphics and programming questions on the web. I’m happy to take the time to help others and appreciate when I receive help. To receive what I consider to be a quick, curt dismissal of my question creates a negative impression of your forum. I’ve already posted this question elsewhere.

If you are looking for recommendations for a WordPress plugin, then please say so. Otherwise, WordPress is completely independent of whatever you choose to manage your mailing lists.

And fyi, this is not my forum. Or anyone’s forum for that matter. It’s a community forum.
