    Hello,

    while trying to optimize one of my client’s site I was intrigued that PageSpeed reported server wait time as much as 3 seconds, but never less than ~0.9se which was quite a long time – if you take into account that site is hosted on premium LiteSpeed based environment with caching plugin.

    So, I’ve asked administrators from my hosting about the issue and they reported that LiteSpeed Cache plugin requires manual activation server-side. I have no problem with that. However, I wasn’t aware of that fact.

    The question is – is it possible for the plugin to know that it can’t function to its full extent and in case it cant’ – communicate to its user that caching module isn’t activated on their server and the performance may be low? That should be a warning with suggestion to contact server administrators.

    Activating the plugin server-side fixed all issues and all of my sites open instantly with zero perceivable delay.

    Generally, if the license not include Cache module, user may see warning message:
    “Notice: This plugin requires a LiteSpeed Server with the LSCache Module enabled. If you are unable to change your server stack, please contact your hosting provider to request the required changes. This plugin will NOT work properly.”. More warning message please refer here: https://www.litespeedtech.com/support/wiki/doku.php/litespeed_wiki:cache:lscwp:error-codes#section6000

    If server side cache set not properly, user can only check the Response Header does not contain “X-LiteSpeed-Cache: hit”.

    It seems that cache module is licensed for my hosting provider and it works.
    However, somehow it requires manual activation that I wasn’t aware of and I wouldn’t knew it if it wasn’t for weird and long server response times.

    Wouldn’t it be wise if LiteSpeed Cache plugin had the ability to check Response Headers and generate a warning if something’s wrong just to inform users that the cache might not be set up properly?

    Hi,

    You mean something like cache checker and make it as a tool in LSCache to let user able to check cache works by themselves?

    That might do the trick. I’d plug it into WP Cron to do checks once per day or so in order to alert users that something is wrong.
