    Hello Ravan,

On the page where you compose a new article, you have the option to exclude the article from the sitemap. In Dutch it says: “Uit in de Google Nieuws Sitemap houden”. This ofcourse must be: “Uit de Google Nieuws Sitemap houden”. So the word “in” must be removed there. You are Dutch, right? I guess you didnt notice. I see this for a while now and it seems to bother nobody, only me lol.

Anyway, great free plugin and work Ravan. Works just great! Thanks!

  • Hi Stijn, you’re right (on all counts). It’ll be updated ?? thanks for the feedback!

By the way, if you can, the translation community highly appreciates new contributors ?? so if you see (other) improvements to be made, you can suggest them via the translation interface for most of the WordPress plugins. Like for this one on https://translate.www.ads-software.com/projects/wp-plugins/xml-sitemap-feed.

And if you wish, you may go further and apply to become a translation editor by posting a request on https://make.www.ads-software.com/polyglots/ or ask on Slack https://wpnl.slack.com/ (follow Sign up to create an account with your www.ads-software.com username) where you will get all the details you need to get started ??

    Hey RavanH,

Sorry for the late response. I missed this one.

Good to hear it will be fixed in the next update! ??

Ow nice. I can do some translations for you on this plugin in Dutch. What do i need to translate? How does that work?

Btw, i believe the categories (opinion, press release, satire ect) dont work anymore per article in Google News. I think you can only set/use it for all articles at once. I tried it, but it just dont work. What do you know about this?

Hi, although all information about the Genre tag seems to have been removed from https://support.google.com/news/publisher-center/answer/74288 I cannot find any official statement about the tag being dropped. Other tags like editors pick or keywords, yes, but not the genre tag… You are saying it is actually being ignored?

    Exactly, its being ignored.
Ow i didnt knew Google fully removed it at all, but that makes total sense.

I discovered myself. I tried to give every article a different genre, but the genres didnt pop up in the SERPS (Google News database). So i asked a Google News employe and he said they dont work anymore. You can add one genre by default in the Google News Publisher Centre and then that label will pop up for all articles. For example the Dutch police force. They have set it to ‘press release’ and all articles have that genre. Look https://www.google.nl/search?q=politie.nl&source=lnms&tbm=nws&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjwodzyh8rcAhUFK1AKHV8IDyMQ_AUICygC&biw=1366&bih=635.

You also dont see the different genres pop up at other newsmedia websites. Just look it up for yourself. Its to bad, because i think the function has a lot of value.

The editors picks feature is still active i believe yes.

Did you pose that question on a Google (News) forum somewhere? I’d really like to read the full discussion to make sure I understand it correctly…

On https://support.google.com/news/publisher-center/answer/4582731 I still see several genres should still be available and multiple may be selected (not just one) in the Publisher Center. Is that not the case anymore?

I have a news site where multiple genres are preselected but that site was submitted a while back. And the funny thing is that it does not seem possible to change that setting. So yeah, maybe it really is left up to AI as suggested in this post https://www.blog.google/products/news/new-google-news-ai-meets-human-intelligence/ from about two months ago.

Really too bad if they dropped the tag since I would think it’s quite common to have different kinds of publications on one site.

In any case, many thanks for your feedback so far ??
