live chat plugin with user registration/authentication

hello,

i have a website built with WordPress, and i want to have a live chat feature where a visitor to the website can register and become authenticated to gain access to the live chat. i have tried several popular plugins and i have not found user (website visitor) authentication and registration options anywhere… am i going about things all wrong? do i need another type of service to have users register with their name and phone number, or their name and email address?
