• Be aware that many if not most of the 5 star reviews here are actually fraudulent. As shown in the screenshot here: https://i.imgur.com/Q9TzEIB.png Live Composer offers the option for people to get faster support (2 days wait instead of 5) if they rate the support here at 5 stars. This is incredibly dishonest, and hides the fact that their support is some of the worst I’ve seen for a plugin.

    So now my support story:
    – On June 5, I requested support because the editor was not working at all on a site that I was called in to work on. On that same day I got the email pictured above.
    – On June 9, I received a response asking me to try 1) opening it in Incognito Mode, 2) Disabling all other plugins, and 3) Activate the default theme. I tried all of them and replied back an hour later that it didn’t work.
    – On June 19, I received a response asking me to create a temporary account so they could edit the site. I did, and provided them with the credentials within an hour.
    – On June 20, I received a response that said it was working with the new account. I verified that it was working, and confirmed that it wasn’t working with my account. I then changed my password and provided them with the credentials to my account within the hour so they could fix it.
    – On June 23, They let me know that ” Something has happened with your user…. The WordPress editor is broken. Probably there was a database glitch. The good part is that you can use the other one user.”. I asked if they could fix it or not.
    – On June 26, I still had not received a response, so I dug into the code, figured out the problem, and fixed it.

Bottom line: The free support option took over 20 days to NOT fix my problem, and to merely let me know that there was, in fact, a problem. No kidding?! I wonder why I contacted support in the first place.

To be perfectly honest, LC is garbage, and you are better off with almost anything else. If I wasn’t just a contributor on this site, and had some decision making power, I would burn it in a heartbeat.

    Hi @techcaleb,

Fact that you rated us 1 star after we couldn’t help you clearly states that rating system works properly in our case. Every user who rate us 5 stars and don’t get a good support can come back and change it to 1 star. This is one of the reasons we have so many 1 star reviews. Again, we are fine with this and user every negative rating to help us to improve.

PS: @jdembowski, @clorith if you need more info I’m happy to discuss it here in open comments. We have nothing to hide and proud to server the plugin users the best way possible. Clearly our ratings form real users every user who rated the plugin has a change to change it to 1 star if wanted. What is not honest is you going through our ratings now and deleting it.

    Per your own request, LiveComposer…

Compensating users for a review is against our plugin guidelines – https://developer.www.ads-software.com/plugins/wordpress-org/detailed-plugin-guidelines/

    9. The plugin and its developers must not do anything illegal, dishonest, or morally offensive.

    […]

This includes (but is not restricted to) the following examples:

    […]

    * Compensating, misleading, pressuring, extorting, or blackmailing users for reviews

    […]

Since you’re asking users to leave a 5-star review to get faster support, that does mean you’ve violated the guidelines. As I asked in email, if you provide us the time-period of the offer, that is how long it’s been going on, we’ll remove ALL your reviews to more fairly reset the average rating.

To be honest, I generally DO NOT publicly disclose information like this, as it only hurts the developer to have it known that they knowingly violated guidelines to which they had agreed. The best defense they can use is “We didn’t read the guidelines!” which doesn’t reflect well on them either ?? However since the developer insisted in this case, I agreed to do so.

I am sorry about the situation, but given that we’ve emailed ALL plugin developers multiple times regarding guidelines (we send out reminders you see) and we openly discussed them on https://make.www.ads-software.com/plugins when we modified them this year, not being aware of the terms you agreed to is a pretty big gaff.

    Dear Live Composer users,
for the last two years, we were doing our best to help you design all the great websites you created with Live Composer. We see everyday examples of your work. It’s amazing how such a small plugin can help you to be creative.

During these years Live Composer never paid for itself and it’s fine. As plugin developers, we have other business that helps us to feed our families. There is no other page builder or www.ads-software.com with the same amount of features for FREE and we proud of it.

FUTURE OF THIS PLUGIN IN YOUR HANDS. Your help needed!

We were helping you all these years and now your help needed to keep the plugin alive. Today, administration of the www.ads-software.com website decided to delete all the 5-star ratings that you gave us since the launch of this project leaving only negative reviews. They accuse us in violation of the rating guidelines.

    WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?

When you contact us for the support we tell you that it will take up to 5 days to answer you for FREE, but we understand that sometimes you can’t wait and we are willing to put our other tasks on hold and help you earlier if you rate us on www.ads-software.com website. You are welcome to change your rating to 1-star latter if you feel that we didn’t provide a good enough support. In fact, many users did exactly that. We are learning on these negative reviews and use it as a benchmark for our support team success/failure.

How we see this: you give us a “credit” of your trust by rating plugin 5 stars. It’s up to us to “pay back” for this trust or to be penalized with your negative review later. 90% of the users are happy with support provided others change their rating to a negative one. I see this situation honest and perfectly valid as you will get FREE support in any case. You are not required to rate us in any case.

The administration doesn’t agree with us, so they decided just delete ALL YOUR POSITIVE ratings leaving only the negative ones calling it “fairly average rating reset”. It’s not clear why removing only positive ratings is “fair rating reset”. Looks like the mentioned guidelines were changed after we published the plugin, but it’s also clear that as the author we violated these guidelines in some way.

    HOW CAN YOU HELP?

We want to continue developing the plugin for free, but only if it’s successful. Plugin ratings play important role in the plugins search results. If we did not recover from this hit we will have to close the project.

If you feel that plugin saved your time and is useful for you please rate it 5 stars again. If you never rated, please help us to recover from this hit and rate us 5 stars.

You are welcome to rate it 1 star too. It will be your signal for us as well.

You don’t have to rate us, but if you care, please do. We want to be honest with you and was happy to serve and help you all these years, now we need your help.

HELP US TO RECOVER FROM THIS HIT. RATE US 5 STARS:

This is false. You’re welcome to ask people for reviews, but we did not “delete all 5-star ratings”. Please get your facts correct.

    Plugin Author LiveComposer

    (@livecomposer)

@otto42 it’s not false. We have all 5 star ratings deleted with only negative left. Check yourself.

I did check. You are mistaken. Again, please get your facts correct.

The reviews that were removed were judged to be there because of your support process. Again, we do not allow our reviews to be used as some form of currency. You’re welcome to ask users to leave you reviews, but it’s not okay to give them something back in exchange. This type of behavior clouds the review system and leads to bias. In addition, this is not your website, so soliciting reviews to be placed on it is also not okay.

If you would have complied with our request as to which reviews were left to expedite your support process, then we would have removed those reviews left in that time frame. Since you instead elected to make this public knowledge, then we’re left to judge for ourselves which reviews were used in that capacity and remove them manually. Most of them were indeed rated at 5 stars, because you required a 5 star review to be left as “payment” for your support.

    Plugin Author LiveComposer

    (@livecomposer)

Dear @otto42 we stated in our message above and highlighted:

it’s also clear that as the author we violated these guidelines in some way.

No questions here. We still think it’s not honest to delete all the positive reviews leaving only negatives for the same time period. If we were wrong you should delete all of them.

I’m not mistaken when telling that you deleted ALL positive ratings leaving only NEGATIVE ones for the same period of time. All new 5 star ratings are coming from our latest email to the users explaining this situation and asking for their help. Please, show me any positive ratings that you didn’t delete (before today). I see only two from the day this plugin was released. WE HAD 156 before these actions.

    Plugin Author LiveComposer

    (@livecomposer)

Again we wanted to share this situation in public because we respect our plugin users and want to show then the issue and ask for their help to overcome it. There is nothing to hide form our side.

    Moderator Samuel Wood (Otto)

@livecomposer Like I said, the ones that were removed were those that we believe to have been left as payment as per the message in your support emails. Had you told us when you started this practice, then we would have simply killed all the reviews in that time frame. We asked you multiple times for this information, and you refused to provide it.

We tried to work with you on this, and you decided against helping us handle this properly. So we’re left to judge for ourselves as to the proper course of action.

I’m going to chime in here as an everyday user and say that it is incredibly bad form for you, WordPress, to continuously place comments here publicly in view of all prospective future users. This matter should have been argued with LiveComposer ‘behind closed doors’ through email communications directly to the developers. Haven’t you ever heard of praise in public, punish in private? In addressing the developer of a free plugin, you certainly are pretty scathing and unfair to them as they try to develop tools to make YOUR CMS easier to use by a wider user pool, expanding your strength in the marketplace. Just sayin’….

@wcadigital: Just to note that the plugin author said >> if you need more info I’m happy to discuss it here in open comments. << And that’s why this is in the open.

Regardless of the offer to discuss in open comments, you, as the developer of a large CMS programs, know better. Just because an offer was made, didn’t mean you had to take them up on it.
