I’ve seen that WC Services no longer supports USPS live shipping rates. Excuse me if I’m being dense, but in a nutshell, what does this mean and how does it affect my business? What accommodations do I need to make or plan for?

Is this function being deferred to another application? I notice a free Woocommerce Shipping plugin that I’ve not noticed before.

    Thanks!

    Hi @kenmcneill,

That is correct. The Woocommerce Services extension no longer provides live rates for shipping quotes.

Before the change, you could use this plugin to give customers a quote for the estimated shipping costs of their order at checkout. Right now, that is no longer a possibility.

If you’d like to provide USPS live rates on the front end of your store, for your customers at checkout, you’ll want to use an extension like USPS Shipping Method

Woocommerce Services is still giving you the ability to print shipping labels right from the order page, though.

I’m not sure I really got an answer to my question, but thanks.

So, we’re going from a free service to needing a premium plugin that’s $79/yr to get the same functionality?

Yes, as mentioned above, the live rates functionality has been retired from the WooCommerce Services plugin. We recommend USPS Shipping Method as a way to get this same functionality on your store.

“WooCommerce Shipping” is another name for the WooCommerce Services plugin – so it is the same plugin.

    Thanks Fernando.

how do you install the USPS shipping method and where do you put it?

@marthamoore USPS Shipping Method is a premium plugin that can be purchased from the following page:

    https://www.woocommerce.com/products/usps-shipping-method/?aff=10486&cid=1131038

If you’ve already bought the plugin, you can find installation and configuration instructions in the following document:

    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/usps-shipping/

I’m confused whats going on, it still says the following on: https://jetpack.com/support/woocommerce-services-and-jetpack/

    Included features:

    – USPS label purchase/printing (from domestic USA addresses only)
    – Automated tax calculation
    – Stripe account provisioning (through WooCommerce setup wizard)
    – PayPal Express Checkout payment authorization

I am trying to set up this, did the workflow set up a wordpress account, entered in credit card info, but when testing shipping address doesn’t show. Is this because of the shipping calc service discontinued but the rest of the documentation with woocommerece and jetpack not updated?

    Thanks

    Hi @jiggaman,

The only feature that was retired from Woocommerce Services was the one that allowed you to provide live shipping rates. You should still be able to print shipping labels using this plugin.

If you are having trouble with that, please open a new thread – as this is a different issue, and this thread has been resolved.

    Okay thanks!

I am curious, please: if the plugin gives “shipping estimates” how does that affect credit card processing? If I capture an auth, but the shipping happens to be greater than my auth, is there a way to charge the credit card for more?
Basically, I want to know how does one do a credit card transaction based on an “estimate” but then charge the proper amount once it is known?
    Thanks!

Best solution I was able to find was this: ‘USPS Simple Shipping for Woocommerce’. Easy to set up and gathers live rates just fine.

That plugin shows that it hasn’t been updated in three years. Is it still working for you?

I literally just installed and pulled up the rates with no issues.
