With previous version of Wordfence I’ve learned that “Live Traffic” causes too much server load for my high traffic website. But I need to see who is logging in and out. With “Live Traffic” on previous version that still displayed. Now it does not.

But in current version I can turn on that view using the so called “tabs” which are actually a list in a drop down menu (I figured that out after I gazed at the screen like a 2-year-old trying to figure out where the “tabs” were).

So, the burning question of this 30 seconds anyway: With “Live Traffic” enabled is the server handling monitoring/recording all the “tabs” or just the ones that are selected.

In other words, if I only select the logins/logouts, is that going to be lower bandwidth and server load than selecting, say, “All Hits” ??

    Thanks for any enlightenment. MTN

  • Hi MTN,

The drop-down performs filtering on the data collected by Live Traffic. Live Traffic still collects all data regardless of the filter and stores it in the database. The filter is a new function that gives you a quick way to search for a specific type of traffic.

    Hope that helps,
    Brian

Ok, thanks, so as previously for a high traffic site Live Traffic should be toggled off to reduce server load, but now we don’t get to see who has logged in and out. Any suggestions on how to acquire that information? Other plugins? Something in Wordfence I’m missing? Thanks, MTN

    Hi MTN,

I’ve sent this on to the dev team (reference number FB1700), and it will probably be implemented soon. It looks like the logins and logouts are still tracked, but we just need to add them back to be displayed with the new menu.

In the meantime, if you need to check logins and logouts, you could turn Live Traffic on just while viewing the report, and then turn it off when done.

If that puts too much load on the server, you could decrease “Update interval in seconds (2 is default)” to 5 seconds or more. (This also slows the scan results display, and some other visual changes on the Wordfence admin pages.)

That’s really good news, if the logins/logouts still being tracked, might as well let us see them! I was about to install yet another plugin (groan) to do so.

Thanks for the tip about changing the Update Interval, I’ve set that to 30 seconds on all my installs, in case I need to turn Live Traffic on.
