Load time for site increases when enabled.

    Hi,

    Not sure what would cause such a performance hit, but when I enabled the plugin and set it to turn off a widget for all but one page; site load time jumped by 500 ms (average load time went for about 2200 ms to 2700 ms from California with server on east coast). I tested and retested this over several days and I would leave it enabled for a day and then turn it off for a day. I used https://www.site24x7.com to monitor and run pageload times. I use W3 Total cache and the entire cache was cleared after each plugin or configuration change.

    Yes, every plugin needs time to process. Especially when you have a lot of rules set for Dynamic Widgets this takes time. See also the Dynamic Widgets FAQ.

    Hi,

    Okay I tried the ‘OLD’ method (as suggested in the FAQ) and that seems to have improved things without turning off the widget like you warned might happen. I will let it run for a day to get some data and also test it on mobile. Can I ask what the difference between the ‘OLD’ and the ‘New’ method is and why it makes such a drastic difference?

    I agree, half a second is a lot. It might be your database server is not performing very well there or there is too less memory available.

    The difference is that OLD method is a ‘hack’. It’s not following all WordPress conventions, while the standard ‘official’ method is following all WordPress hooks and procedures.

    Hi,

    Well your hack worked, it cut the time down to nothing, there was hardly any effect (no additional download time) when enabling the plugin with the hack.
