  • Did you bother at all to read the user manual that came in the WP archive file when you downloaded it?

Obviously the answer to that would be yes and I may have missed something that is why I am here on the beginners forum asking for help.Yes and watched videos and read again etc. Could you bother at least posting something useful like where to look exactly
    Thanks

More information on the problem would be helpful, have you just installed it locally, is this problem appearing with the default themes?

Local installs might not play nice with the .htaccess file, have you tried removing it from the wp install folder temporarily to see if it helps?

that is why I am here on the beginners forum asking for help

This is not a “beginners” forum – although more and more it’s beginning to look like it. You obviously did NOT read the information at the Codex or you would have seen the link named “New to WordPress – where to start”

    Hi,
    Thanks,
I adjusted the htaccess and then used the generated password and admin login and now I have got it up, thanks. The directions for installing locally on wordpress imply no password is needed but if you want to do anything it surely is !! The moderator at XAMPP helped me with this

Saurus…are you just trying to get rid of people or what??? I read the where to start…the directions were unclear. It is fine if you are uploading to a web site or doing the com version. I am not because I have to figure out how to convert multiple pages and rename without losing Google status etc . I like the idea of changing template design with a click and the automated cms

Finding codex and knowing that was where an answer could be was an interesting journey for a beginner. I am actually a little shocked as I mod for a university and some med/science forums and have seldom seen this level of flaming….I would thing that a forum with the size of the wordpress following could be more user freindly experience, adding a beginners forum might be a help.

Glad you got it working in the end…

I run a local install for everything so i’ve come to get use to common issues like with that with .htaccess ….

Vista also needs a hosts file edit to work correctly on https://localhost/ which i’ve only fairly recently discovered. I’d been using 127.0.0.1 for a while up till then, which was a bit of a pain…
