localhost takes me to remote site

Just started wordpress and wish to test it on local machine – it is up and running on remote server.

When I try to access it via localhost I am taken to the remote site. I installed it locally and then uploaded to server. I am using a winXP box and a linux box with ubuntu. Both do the same. As others are working on the site I wish to test my changes before uploading.

Any help would be appreciated.
