Hey, so I’m new, but I’ve read the manual, and been looking through the forums but can not find an answer to this question:

Which theme file contains the actual post meta data? I’ve been trying to change the post meta data content for blog posts, but can not figure out which template file contains it.

I’ve found a section on the Main Index Template, but when I edited it, and updated, and then posted, I got got no different results. I’m sure theres something obvious that I’m missing….

I have the same question and I don’t think it has been answered.
The post metadata Codex section does not mention where one can find that metada that is edited in the examples.
Where can it be found in general, or, at least, for the default Kubrick theme?

Ok, the Kubrick’s theme has posts’ metadata in single.php

What do you mean, where you can find postmeta.

The functions are there for when you need them, no post meta exists until you start creating custom fields for your posts. So if no custom fields exist, then there is no related post meta.

As standard a theme should have … <?php the_meta(); ?>

If you want more control over the post meta, then you use the additional functions such as those explained on the codex page.

If you’re still not getting the answer you need, then i’d suggest perhaps re-thinking the question so as to make it clear what you wish to know.

I also have the same problem… I’ll restate the problem — changes to the post meta data code located in:
\wp-content\themes\default\image.php

do not result in changes to the post meta data… why not?

Again, your question(s) does not make sense…

If you can’t get the answer you need from either of those, then i’d guess you either misunderstand what post meta is or how it works, or you’re asking the wrong question.

Found it guys! The text that is in the example on https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Post_Meta_Data_Section is located in a file called single.php.

The path I took to get to it is:
wp-content/themes/default/single.php

For me, Line 29 of the file starts the text “This entry was posted.”

Use this in good fun and not to destroy planets.

I think they mean the actual data.
The postmeta data is stored in a table within the database.
General data (like the_time()) is returned within the post, custom meta data can be posted as well by default or with specific calls.
