  • Where did you put the template that you created? It should be in /wp-content/themes/ and then go into your theme and find it via FTP.

You can also access it directly from Wordress by going to appearance and then editor and it should be one of the files on the right.

Thanks so much for your help, Michele.

Your answer confirmed the places where I have already looked. But I see no “no-sidebar” file via FTP or Settings!

However, when I create a new post i see the option of the Default template and my ‘no-sidebar’ template. I would gladly send you a screen shot but can’t see how I would do so in this forum.

The file list on the right in settings includes only:
Aggregate (the name of my theme from ElegantThemes)
    404Template (404.php)
    Footer (footer.php)
    Main index template (index.php)

Any other thoughts on where I might locate this template file? I would be happy to even just delete it and start fresh!

Hmmm. That is so strange. I am not familiar with Elegant themes and I just went and rechecked my site to make sure what I told you was true.

I looked on the Elegant themes website and found something. You can read it below. There is supposed to be a drop down menu to the right of the text editor. So read the below and take a look and let me know if you see your template there.

Using Page Templates To Create Advanced Layouts
All of our themes come with a collection of page templates that can be used for a variety of purposes. You can apply each of these page templates to any page that you have created. When you edit a page in wp-admin, you will notice a Templates dropdown menu to the right of the text editor. Here you can select from a list of available page templates. Once a template is selected, additional settings will appear in the “ET Page Templates Settings” box below the dropdown menu. These settings should be configured to acheive the desired result, as outlined in this video tutorial.

Thanks for sticking with me on this, Michele.

The dropdown they’re talking about is where you select what template you want to apply to a given post. My ‘no_sidebar’ template appears in that list as a choice, but there is no option to edit the template!

I don’t even recall how I created the ‘no_sidebar’ template in the first place and a full search of the server directory doesn’t find a file with that name. Hunh???

What _should_ i be searching for?

    Totally lost!

This stuff is out of my league but here are a few thoughts.

My first thought is that there has to be another file somewhere where all of the page templates in the drop down are stored. Like custom page templates ET Templates or something. But I am not familiar with Elegant Themes.

It looks like your site uses a child theme built with https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/orbisius-child-theme-creator/faq/
which means that all changes are made there. So go to appearance, editor and see if you can select your child theme and see if the page template you want is there.

You could start fresh but you have to drop that file somewhere so you still need the location as to where it is.
