• Versions before 4.02 worked fantastic! But 4.02 – Installed, and while I was updating some files in the back-end it just locked me out. I deleated the plugin, but when I came back I ws still locked out.

I would up having to delete my wp install and install a backup I had made BEFORE I updated to 4.02. I guess we should always backup before installing any “re-done from the ground up” plugin.

I’m sure this will be wonderful at some point, but I’m not going to try it for a while because it was buggy for my install.

  • I just ran into a Lockout problem. Setting up a woo commerce site iThemes Security up grade yesterday. A host, 72.218.xxx.xx, has been locked out of the WordPress site at due to too many attempts to access a file that does not exist.

The host has been locked out until 2014-03-27 03:15:29 .

I see that they’ve just released vs 4.05, but I’m going to wait now to see a few more reviews about the lock out problem. I’m also wondering if we should delete all that stuff BWPS put into the htaccess file? I’d love to see iThemes come out with an explaination of the lockout problem, along with a solution. Till then I’ll stick with the older version that does NOT lock me out.

Same problem here. I was trying to simply add an image to a page then I get locked out. I even went back and added my IP to the whitelist but no joy. Still locked out again. Seriously, this needs to be fixed ASAP!

same here, i have my own hosting and when i ran this it locked me out of all sites, even the ones with the older version. I had to FTP in and delete it from all sites to get back in.

I’m locked out too and can’t seem to find a solution.

First off sorry for the trouble that you all have experienced. We apologize for any frustration that this may have caused you.

We’ve been working on bugs since the first reports of them coming in and have released updates to correct the errors as we fix them. iThemes does value your feedback and input. We appreciate you working and being patient with as we try to iron out the bugs in the plugin.

Try downloading the most recent version (4.0.12) and see if that corrects the issue. If it doesn’t feel free to fill out our iThemes Security Bugs form with as much detail as possible so that our developers can fix this bug for a future update.

    Thanks- R.S.

Cheers for the update, will install and report back tomorrow.

I have the same issue on ALL my websites. How can I recommend my clients continue using this plugin, too?

After changing several things on the backend using the admin account, I get locked out. Of my own website! I receive the typical “error” screen and an email stating my account was locked out. I can do a maximum of 5 changes to a site before being locked out – especially if these changes are updates.

This is on ALL my sites. I manage three on a daily basis, more for clients on a weekly and monthly basis. Any of the latest updates have not fixed this problem. I hate to disable the plugin, but I hate being locked out even more. Bad bad bad review here.

Same – for all my client websites. Its just locked me out doing a live tutorial on how to edit a website. Not impressed.

Yes, just got the “[D]ue to too many attempts to access a file that does not exist. The host has been locked out until 2014-05-10 18:07:49 .

*This email was generated automatically by iThemes Security. To change your email preferences please visit the plugin settings.” error tonight.

I find it ludicrous that I’m told to go to the plugin settings to change my email preferences when this was a notification that I’d been locked out! And I discovered it hours after the lockout was supposed to end.

I had to rename the plugin directory to get back into the dashboard. And edit the htaccess file.

Have WP 3.91 and had just upgraded iThemes security to 4.2.2 (still have it, deactivated, in my plugin list). I’d deleted all my other security plugins in favor of this one, but if it keeps locking me out, it’s pretty useless!

People – please post your own reviews.
