• I’ll try to make this brief but clear….

I took over a site that is linked to 2 separate wordpress accounts. I was told by the original builder, that he did this to avoid spam. The initial goal of doing this was to type in https://www.domainname.com and you would be redirected to https://www.domainname.com/wp

Each of these has their own WP account, which I have 2 different usernames for, however, they are linked to 1 email account. I cannot log in to either account. When I go to reset my password, I enter either username which the wordpress site says it does not recognize. When I enter the email address associated with both of these usernames, it sends me a link to click to reset my password, however after clicking on it, I am told that the link is invalid.

I’m in an infinite locked out loop.

Any ideas how I can break this cycle and fix this site?

  • Which of the two installations are you using to reset the password with?

From what it sounds like, the redirect may be messing with your reset password link and causing it to be “invalid”. What happens if you request a password reset from the domainname.com/wp page?

Alternatively, do you have access to the databases for these installations at all (through PHPMyAdmin or otherwise)? This will probably be your best bet at circumventing the password reset loop and manually resetting the password yourself.

The Codex describes how resetting your password through PHPMyAdmin would work, and also has a number of other ways to get a password reset: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Resetting_Your_Password#Through_phpMyAdmin

The same thing happens when I go through the domainname.com/wp page.

I’m unsure how to access the databases through PHPMyAdmin. I’ve never done it and have heard that unless I’m experienced, it’s probably not a good idea.

Any other possibilities on how to crack this?

    – In WordPress, there is more than one way for Rsetting Your Password .

Backup: If you are going to attempt, backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.

Alternately, you may want to ask your hosting provider’s tech to assist you with it

May be this video will help you reset password with phpmyadmin,
