Anyone else seeing a lot more of this error? Both admins on our site have been locked out frequently because of empty post and user agent strings, although we’re just operating the site normally and sometimes just trying to look at a public page!

Even after whitelisting, it happened. So I have to disable this plugin for now.

  • Hi microberto,
When this happens again, you can do the following:
    – Disable the plugin by renaming its directory via FTP , I mean renaming (/wp-content/plugins/wordfence) to something else, like “wordfence-off” for example.
    – This should allow you to access your website again, then you can install “Wordfence Assistant” plugin, by which you can either “Clear all locked out Wordfence IPs, locked out users and advanced blocks” or “Disable Wordfence Firewall”.
    – After that you can rename the plugin directory back to “wordfence” and re-activate the plugin, you won’t get blocked at this stage.

Now, back to the reason why you got blocked in first place, most likely the plugin wasn’t detecting visitors’ IPs correctly, so I’ll need to know which option was selected in “How does Wordfence get IPs“. And make sure your correct IP address appears in (Wordfence > Tools => Diagnostics => IPs).

    Thanks.
