• I can’t log in to my site using my uid and pwd. I did recently transfer my domain from one account to another, I fear my site may now be locked away in the old host space. How can I recover it?

  • can’t you use the password recovery link on the log-in page?

I did that, but it tells me the user name is not valid.

there’s a long story, but I’ll try and keep it short. I had my wordpress site hosted on godaddy. our partnership dissolved, and we transferred the domain name and opened a new account with godaddy. now it appears the site is stuck in the old space, and I can’t access it through wordpress to move it to the new space. I don’t understand why the username at wordpress would be changed.

What do you mean by “our partnershop dissolved”? – do you mean you didn’t pay the renewal fee to keep your account live, so it lapsed?

Did you transfer the files & database from the old to the new hosting account? If so I don’t follow how you managed to get a backup from the dead account.

What are you trying to log onto? – a new installation of WordPress?

It sounds like you need to speak to the helpful people at GoDaddy.

no, my company had two partners. Me and the other guy. Our site was hosted on his godaddy account. we parted ways, and i bought a new account on godaddy and had my ex-partner transfer the domain name to me. Now when I try and access the site through wordpress using my old username and password, I am blocked. It tells me the username is not valid. I didn’t back up all the files from the old godaddy account. Now I can’t get to my site to make edits.

transferring the domain is only part of it. unless you’ve uploaded the files & restored the database to your own account, you need to get those from your former partner. GoDaddy may be able to help you, but unless they are certain that you own that content, you will probably need to get your former partner to give you ftp & phpmyadmin access.

I still don’t understand what you are trying to log on to though

in order to edit my site, i entered https://www.bigshootout.com/wp-admin in the address bar of my browser. i then would get a wordpress admin login window. i would enter my username and password, and off I’d go. I was able to do this with no problem as recently as a week ago. today, i try, and i am blocked out. my username and password are no longer valid. coincidentally, we just transferred the domain to point to a new account. sounds like i locked myself out. what i am trying to do is find out if there is any way of restoring the wordpress database and files without having to contact my former partner, whom we had a pretty rugged parting with.

unfortunately no you cannot restore a database and set of files you don’t have

Those rough partings, are just that. Play nice them maybe you’ll get permissions again from him. If not, bye website.
