• Anyone have any clue why I keep getting locked out of my own sites when I’m doing any kind of maintenance or updates? Even though I have my IP address whitelisted in both places it can be, I’ll hit the white “error” screen and eventually get the email that my own IP address has been locked out “due to too many attempts to open a file that does not exist.” (Even though I haven’t hit any 404 error messages or done anything except delete the “widget landing page” that’s automatically being created by the photo album plus plugin. Is there any plan to white list for 404 errors? Connecting to the server and renaming this folder just to get back to one of my sites is really getting kind of old.

  • I am constantly being locked out due to too many bad login attempts as well, despite not doing anything except creating and editing posts. I have also whitelisted my ip address. It has gotten to the point that I am keeping phpmyadmin open in another tab so I can delete my lockout entry every 20 minutes or so. It is very annoying.

Is this due to wordpress timing out or something?

    Same issue here.
I also whitelisted my IP at both places but still get locked out when I’m currently inside the admin section and working.

I’m about half way through the migration of all sites away from this Ithemes disaster. Have switched to WordFence and combining that with BruteProtect while monitoring resource usage on the two together. So far they seem to be doing everything BWPS did without any of the hassles that have appeared since this switch / merger / takeover. Having monitored all the forum feeds on this I’ve decided the pronounced lack of any input from the Ithemes folks on repeated issues just means it’s time to move on. Chris Wiegman had (decidedly past tense) a good plugin but it’s pretty much toast at this point, IMO.

I’ll probably do the same. This thing becomes a nightmare since the switch to iThemes.

It would be nice if you may share some instructions on how to deactivate it without creating issues before moving to another solution.

@john: When I’ve hit the issues, I’ve just accessed the plugin folder via FTP and renamed the BWPS folder. (Interesting that it’s still named that.) Once renamed, log into dashboard and go to plugins – it should show as deactivated. You can delete either from dashboard or via FTP but I delete from the dashboard because that also dos a better job of cleaning up the database.

There may be other ways to accomplish the same thing but this has worked fairly easily for me. (As easy as anything dealing with such a mess as this has turned into.)

Thanks for this, will go ahead and cleanup this mess.

FYI this is not the only plugin by iThemes having issues: I also used to run another one called “Multi-Site Site List Shortcode” and this also stopped working and nobody replies at support there.

I think we should be aware when we say this brand in a theme’s name and run away…
