The user that posted the last post on the site is admin. Have you tried that? (Note that this is information publicly available on your website)

    Hi there,

The wp-login appears to be working for me.

Make sure you type in the link correctly as “wp-admin” does not work.

Assuming you can get to the login page; I would suggest you try the “Lost your password?” at the bottom of the login and see if anything comes in on any of your email accounts.

    Thanks

i can get to a log in screen using https://thisisbilllewis.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
when i enter what seems to be a recognised email address I get this: Error: The email could not be sent. Your site may not be correctly configured to send emails. Get support for resetting your password.
    I go to “support for resetting your password” and it says;

In the Administration Screen, menu, go to Users > All Users. But I can’t get to the Admin screen because I cannot log in

    Any more thoughts?

    Hi batami,

If you can’t access your wordpress admin and if password reset is not working, I think the only way to retrieve the log in details is via cpanel.

If you are using hostgator, here’s a link on how to reset your wordpress password https://www.hostgator.com/help/article/how-to-reset-wordpress-password

Via phpMyAdmin, you will also be able to confirm/change the email and password.

    Hope this helps.

This article lists several completely different ways to reset your password. Any one of them will work and do the job. Find the one that’s right for you and use that: https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/resetting-your-password/

Hi Steve, thanks for this. with regard to the article you point me to, I wold comment:

Option 1: To Change Your Password. To change your password in current versions:
In the Administration Screen, menu, go to Users > All Users.

The problem with this, is that because I can’t access the site I can’t access the Admin Screen so I can’t change anything.

Option 2 Go to your WordPress Login page (something like https://yoursite.com/wordpress/wp-login.php)
Click on the “Lost your password?” link

I can follow this, I get an error message which first says the site can’t send emails, and then on retry it says site can’t be reached.

I really dont understand how to follow the next recommendation MySQL Command Line

I am loath to abandon th site and start all over as I am sure, for someone who knows what to do the problem is not difficult to solve.

Any or all help gratefully received

    Bill

Then install PHPMYADMIN via apt-get or yum or dnf! You can also use wp-cli and/or the mysql command line.
