    OK

New site. Installed AIOWPS. Copied settings from existing site (with a different admin path). Read instructions and forgot about admin path. Imported settings.
Would not let me import as it claimed there were permission problems but this is an issue with WordPress I think as I have the same issue with media so let’s ignore it for now.

Copied and pasted file content. Locked out. URL was trying to redirect to the alternative path for the admin panel and could not find it so locked me out.

Used file manager to rename AIOWPS folder. Regained access to site admin. Cannot edit AIOWPS without activating it. As soon as it is activated it reads the redirect again and locks me out.

Deleted AOWPS and reinstalled. It has found the settings file somehow and done the same. There is no .htaccess file on the site so I cannot edit it.

Deleted all AIOWPS tables in WordPress database. Same problem! Even though the folder has a new name! Checked tables in database and they have been reinstated. Deleted them all. Still cannot get in.

Deleted the renamed folder and (unprotected) access is restored.

There is still no .htaccess file. For some reason third parties (even using my access credentials) cannot write to the site. No matter what I try to upload, file or media I get “Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2020/03. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

How do I remove the information relating to the imported settings so that AIOWPS is vanilla to start again.

How do I import the settings and amend the detail once imported if it locks me out every time?

Thanks for your help. When working it is a great plugin but when it isn’t it is hair pullingly frustrating.

Tried it on a second site but amended the text file first. This time the Catcha cannot read the key as it is not related to this site so once again I am locked out. Seems to. memthat importing settings is not a good idea. Now have two sites completely crippled and cannot apply AIOWPS protection to.

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us.

Please try the following documentation how to reset aiowps plugin. Let me know if this helps you.

    Thank you

OK. Found the plugin and installed to the site.

I have removed the AIOWPS plugin so the only plugins on the site are Askimet and your reset plugin.

Activated the plugin. Clicked on settings and got:

**Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.**

the url it is trying to access is:

    https://xorex.rocks/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=aiowps_reset_settings_plugin_options

Tried to reinstall the main AIOWPS plugin and once again it locks me out.

Please let me know which files I need to manually delete to get this going properly as the reset plugin cannot work for me.

    More info.

Built new site from script on virtualmin. installed AIOWPS. Set User Accounts, User Login and User Registration settings. Appeared to accept them as it locked me out (60 minutes) and I had to log in again.

However, when I try to change the database prefix it will not let me. Is this a database issue rather than a file issue? It is the next thing I will check.

Having said that, there is still no generated .htaccess file for the AIOWPS settings to be added to so I am really not sure what is going on but it is a server wide issue not just your plugin or a single site.

    Hi,

Having said that, there is still no generated .htaccess file for the AIOWPS settings to be added to so I am really not sure what is going on but it is a server wide issue not just your plugin or a single site.

You need to speak to your host about this issue.

Before contacting your host try the following. Click on permalink settings in your admin panel and click on save settings. This will create the .htaccess file. If it doesn’t, check the file permissions in your site.

Let me know if the above helps you.

    Thank you

Well that did not work either.

I have convinced myself that it is my site (well the WordPress script) and not your plugin giving the problem.

I am running virtualmin and installed the site using the WordPress script. Despite all the permissions being correct in the file structure and the username and password being correctly set up, the site cannot install or write any files, media, config, or any other. So it would seem that either a) the username and password are not correct or, b) the database connection is wrong.

Something is clearly wrong as my other sites hosted elsewhere can upload new plugins directly whereas these script installed sites only upload plugins via ftp which Issue is a default backup to direct file writing.

I am raising it on the virtualmin forums where there are lots of questions and few sensible answers so if you can suggest anything I can try I would appreciate it even though it is not your area of responsibility.

It is really weird because neither option a) or b) apply when I post a new page. Presumably I have to use the site admin details to do that and what’s more, it stored the data in the database so that seems OK as well!

Can you suggest any logs or other data that I can look at to see what is happening.

A bit more. Although the plugin sometimes says it cannot do things (like write to the .htaccess file) some items indicate they are set but they are not. For example, I reset the admin page to xxx instead of wp-admin. It tells me it has done it but xxx is not recognised and wp-admin still has access. There was no write warning when I did this.

Also, enabled logging but the site cannot write to the directory so no log file is generated!

Hi Geoff, I suspect there is something wrong with your whole WordPress installation just like you mentioned above. This is the first time I hear something like this. I would contact your host about this issue. It is very strange that you are not allowed to write to your .htaccess file. Unfortunately this has nothing to do with our plugin. This is beyond the scope of this free support forum.

    Kind regards

Yes I agree with you. Thanks for responding thus far. I am the admin for the sites which are on my own VPS so I can only talk to myself!

Have posted requests on the virtualmin forums for help. If and when I get that side sorted, I will return to this if I still have problems accessing the site. However, I think you have given me all the links I need to sort it myself.

I will mark this as solved for now and open a new ticket if required.
