As of this afternoon, I can no longer log into my website. I haven’t changed anything and have been logging in normally for years now. No recent new plugins or changes to my site. I was using it to add content just a few hours earlier like normal.

I’ve tried resetting the password and that worked, but I’m still locked out. When I go to log in, I get an error saying, “Invalid username or incorrect password!”

I’m not sure how to get back into my site. I’ve poked around in phpMyAdmin, but I’m not sure if there’s something I should change in there like activating a user that got deactivated or something.

What else could I do to regain access?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

-is your username, email address and user role correct in the user table in phpmyadmin?
-can you change the password in the user table?
-can you add a new user with administrator role in user table?
-are there any unexpected users listed in the user table?
-are you using any security plugins that might be involved in the login process?

The username, email, and user role all look correct. Is user_status = 0 correct for an admin?

I tried resetting the password in phpMyAdmin with an md5 hash, but that didn’t work.

I just created a new user in phpMyAdmin using these directions. No luck logging in as the new user though.

    There’s no unexpected users.

As far as security plugins, I am using Wordfence, Really Simple SSL, and Vaultpress.

I assumee you have a recent full backup is available in VaultPress?

1-can you double check that the database info in wp-config file matches the database with your users, posts etc.
2-can you disable all plugins temporarily in file manager area? (i.e. rename plugins folder) —maybe a plugin conflict or security plugin is interfering.
3-have you tried to login from a different computer and/or network?
4-have you tried to login using an incognito window for browser?

Looks like it’s a plugin issue! Thank you!

I tried renaming the plugins folder and got a different error on login, so I tried resetting my password again and I’m in!

Now I gotta figure out which plugin caused the issue with a little trial and error. Thank you! ??

install health check plugin which can be used in troubleshooting mode to deactivate all plugins and theme
might help narrow down the source of the issue

Looks like WPBrusier was the culprit. With that plugin disabled, I can now log in normally again and the comments now work on my site too.

Thanks so much for your help Lisa! You are a lifesaver. ??
