I’m locked out of my website. The 2FA code is being asked, but the phone where the authenticator app was on was replaced. This particular Athenticator app wasn’t transferred so i need to re-auth.

I tried renaming the wordfence plugin folder, but when i do, there’s another error popping up when i try to log in.

While i am typing this it seems i solved it.
Renaming the folder can work, but i needed to add some character in the front of the ‘wordfence’ folder : ‘FFFwordfence.
What i did, and that didnt work, was renaming the folder to: ‘wordfenceFFF’

So it seems that only renaming by adding characters in front of the plugin name works.
Im leaving this here to help future people

Hello @rikdol and thanks for reaching out!

Thanks for providing that information! These are the usual steps I provide to people who are locked out due to 2FA issues.

    • Please use FTP/SFTP — or any file manager your web host provides via their administration panel.
    • Look inside the /wp-content/plugins/ directory and rename the wordfence directory to wordfence.bak. This will deactivate Wordfence and allow you to login without the 2FA code.
    • Once you have logged in to your WordPress admin you can name the folder back to wordfence again.
    • Go to your user profile and add 2FA back to your account, making sure to download the backup codes in case of problems in the future.

    Thanks again!
