Log in error

    Hi Hope someone can point me in the right direction please.

    When I enter my website URL into my search engine with the wp-admin added I am taken to the log in screen. However, when I enter my username and password instead of being taken to the dashboard I am taken to an error page for my site. I am actually logged in OK for if I select either Most Used sites and select Dashboard or enter the URL for wp-admin but add index.php after trying to log in I am taken to the Dashboard.

    I have also noticed that when I click on login having entered the correct u/n and Password the URL in the search engine changes to https://eac.eu.com/newsite/http:/eac.eu.com/newsite/http:/eac.eu.com/newsite/wp-admin/ instead of https://eac.eu.com/newsite/wp-admin which takes me to the error page.

    I activated the basic theme of Twenty Twelve and logged in and went straight to the Dashboard, but when I re-activated MAX I was again taken to the error page as before.

    Can someone help me correct this please so that I can enter my u/n and p/w and go to the Dashboard as I should.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Thanks for trying to help.

    Yes I de-activated all plug ins – no difference. As I say above I activated Twenty Twelve theme and log in was normal straight to dashboard so that got me thinking that there was a corruption on the MAX Magazine theme files somewhere, I know not where. I have placed question on their section but have had not response as yet.

    I do not fancy your idea about re-uploading all files and folders I am bound to make a mess of that and I have spent a long time getting this site ready for the charity for the fee that charities normally pay – rewards given in heaven:-)

    Any ideas mighty One?

    Since the login is fine with the 2012 theme, it would seem that the issue is in the Max Magazine theme itself. Re-uploading core files wouldn’t help in this situation, so don’t bother with that.

    Have you edited the theme in any way?
