• This is an ongoing problem with several websites. They are all either 2.6 or 2.7. I had hoped updating to 2.7 would fix it….

I’ve tried so many different methods of upgrading and fixes.

Moved the plugin folder, logged in, moved it back. Works sometimes or for a while, then back to the reloading log in page.

Taken out one plugin at a time (can’t deactivate if I can’t log in) and thought I’d narrowed it down to one. But a few hours later, same problem.

Did the re-do of the md5 hash. No change.

Sometimes I go to the admin area (via bookmarked link) and can get in. then when I click something, I am kicked to the log in page. Other times, I can’t even get to an admin page. Or I’ll get in and be halfway through a post when it will say “cannot save draft since you aren’t logged in” (or something like that).

    Very frustrating. Very annoying.

I’ve been using WP for over 4 yrs and have never had this much trouble. Heck, very little to no trouble at all!

I’ve tried another computer. At first, I could log in then it started the problem there, too. I’m wondering if it is a Firefox issue. I was just able to log in using IE (shudder). Someone please find a fix for this so I won’t have to use IE again.

  • I’ve got the exact same problem. I upgraded to 2.7, everything worked fine. Upgraded some of my plugins using the auto updating mechanism, still worked ok, but wordbook gave me some error. It turned out to be related to my server being set to using PHP4, so I was like, ok let’s do the recommended thing and set my server to PHP5. Suddenly I get redirected to the login page for almost every change I make.

However, if I manually change the URL back to /wp-admin/ I still get into my dashboard, so I am still logged in actually….

    Installed plugins:

    Akismet 2.2.3
    Ajax Login 1.0
    ANIga gallery 0.5
    NextGen Gallery 1.0.2
    Smart Youtube 2.7.2
    Wordbook 0.14.2
    WP Super Cache 0.8.8

I tried deactivating each of the plugins to see if it was caused by one of them but that doesn’t seem to be the case. However during this process I ran into more weird behavior. When I (de)activate a plugin using the provided links next to the plugins, it fails and redirects me to the login page. However, when I do it using the bulk change option, sometimes it works correctly and shows the updated situation. But sometimes, it fails partly and redirects me to the Login page. When I go back to the plugins (using my browsers back button), they have been updated though.

This is in both FF3 and IE7 (windows XP). All this leads me to believe that it is some PHP5 specific bug in WP 2.7.

Hmmm, somehow I seem to have fixed it. I disabled the “remember me” checkbox while logging in and everything worked fine. After rechecking the “remember me” checkbox, it still seems to work ok now. Maybe, when I upgraded to PHP5 some cookie stuff didn’t go as it should…

No, it will start looping again soon. I tried that, too.

I don’t think it is a PHP error. One site has 4.x and the others 5.x.

Anyone else have any ideas? It’s not like the WP community not to have a fix for something.

I know. It sounds as if it is not an uncommon error.

Usually, there’s some sort of great fix by now.

It has been 14 days since I was last able to log in to one site. I’m about to go back to simple text with CSS to make it look decent.

    guys check out this,

And come on! I couldn’t find “what’s new” section on this website. They should wrote up what they have changed from last version till new version.

There is now a 2.71 version of WP again. You can find change logs for almost all the WP versions here:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/WordPress_Versions

I was able to determine that a plugin that doesn’t support 2.7 was causing the problem for me. I removed all the plugins and added them back one by one. Good luck all.

I’ve just had a similar issue after changing the .htaccess to rewrite https:// to https://www.

I hadn’t made any permalink changes in WP admin yet, so this was the only rewrite and was obviously the cause.

When I deleted this, I was able to log in. I then added “www” to the WP address and blog address (Settings > General) and re-added the .htaccess rule.

While this is a pretty specific fix to one instance of this problem, it may help some others to clear their .htaccess (back it up first!), log in and check their settings for the WP address and blog address, then re-add their .htaccess rules.

I’m not certain, but you may need to re-enter your permalink settings following this ? Hope this helps.

I am having the same issue, only thing is there has not been any new plugins installed or .htaccess file edits, the only thing that changed since i logged in yesterday was css that was chagned while in yesterday.

i repeatedly login (have tried chrome, IE8, and firefow) and am reverted back to the wp-login screen without an error, i have tried replacing the URL string with wp-admin and the whole string of “logged in” URL’s /post.php, edt.php, index.php — nothing.

please please helpe this is so frustrating.
    thanks,.
