• Hi,

My logged in users can’t proceed with check out and receive the following error:

An account is already registered with your email address. Please log in.

Would could be the cause of this issue?

    Thank you!

    Hi there,

To clarify, are they logged in as you mentioned, or just have existing accounts and are trying to Check out? Are you able to reproduce it on the site as well while logged into your account?

This message can be displayed if they have created an account, and are trying to enter their email at checkout in the email address field but have the “Create account” checkbox checked as well (while not actually logged into their existing account).

We have also seen cases of this being incorrectly displayed due to conflicts with other plugins or themes that include login-related functionality as well. To check for conflicts, please temporarily switch your theme back to Storefront and disable all plugins except for WooCommerce, then check to see if the issue is fixed. If it is, then you can switch your theme back and reactivate plugins one-by-one until you find the one that is causing the issue.

You can read about testing for conflicts in our documentation here:
    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/

If you are still having trouble, please share a copy of your site’s System Status. You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, you can paste it here in your reply. Please note that since this is a public forum, you may want to remove any sensitive information that you don’t want shared publicly.

Also, send screenshot of the settings under WooCommerce > Settings > Accounts & Privacy. I recommend https://snipboard.io for easily sharing screenshots – please follow the instructions on the page, then paste the URL in your reply here.

    I hope that helps!

    Hi,

I have a specific user who keeps getting the error while trying to checkout while she’s logged in. Unfortunately I could not replicate the issue. I have to put my live website on maintenance mode while having Storefront installed. This said user is restricted from accessing the website while the website is on maintenance mode so logging onto her account while maintenance mode is up was not possible.

What I did was to check users that have the same role as hers. I was able to checkout properly while logged in so I figured the issue wasn’t based on roles.

The band-aid solution I had was for her to checkout while logged out, using the same email address she has on her account. It worked.

I still could not find what has caused the issue.

    Thank you!

    Hi there @anneyu,

Thanks for getting back to us here. It sounds like you went through quite a bit of testing/troubleshooting! If you are unable to reproduce the issue yourself, either with your user or other users under the same role, then it sounds like perhaps data connected to her specific user may have gotten corrupted somehow.

If that band-aid solution will work for her, then that’s great! Otherwise, perhaps you could have her create a new user under a different address and see if she still experiences the same issue.

    I hope that helps!

    Hi @kellymetal,

I now have several users reporting the same issue…
This is the error they’re getting:
    https://snipboard.io/aIGCf2.jpg

I can confirm the user is indeed logged in on the site since the notification bell on the bottom right only shows up if a user is logged in.

    Any ideas about this error?

The problem isn’t the text the problem is the actual link itself. The link goes to /checkout/# so the actual login link isn’t specified and I can’t find out how to change it.

I am experiencing this problem too at cart eg if user tries to pay with Apple Pay and they are not logged in yet (our site requires user to be logged in):

The words ‘Please log in’ are hyperlinked to “#”, so clicking the link goes nowhere….which is confusing for user.

    Is there any update?

    Thanks

    Hey there,

I have the same issue. Any solution to this?

Is there any filter we can use to replace this ‘Please log in’ link whilst we await an update?

Having the same problem. Any solution?

I’m having the same problem. If the “Please log in” link went to the My Account page this would help.

I also have this problem with the link having “#”, in my case I use the Multi-Step Checkout Plugin, I’ve been working on this for a few days

An account is already registered with your email address. Please log in.

Contacted woocommerce and he suggested the following on the woocommerce > settings > accounts/privacy page

Please enable this “Allow customers to log into an existing account during checkout”

That puts a Returning Customer message at the top of the page.

If an email that exists already is then put in the email field during checkout it still brings up the An account is already registered with your email address. Please log in. message but the link works ??
