    Hi all,

Hoping you can help me with the following problem.

The last time I logged into my wordpress installation was about a month ago. At that time it worked flawlessly and all I changed was some featured images and added a new post.

Now, when I try to go to https://www.example.com/wp-admin/ I get a 404 page and the URL says https://example.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fexample.com%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

    So far I have tried:

    1. Refreshing the browser and clearing the cache.
    2. Renaming the plugin folder plugin.off and trying again
    3. Renaming the themes folder themes.off and trying again
    4. Deleting my .htaccess file and recreating it again

None of the above has allowed me to reach wp-login or wp-admin. Viewing posts works fine.

The only thing I think could have changed is one of the automatic updates. Any ideas how I can fix this?

    Thanks in advance!

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

Thanks MacManX, tried that just then, unfortunately that didn’t work.

    Any other ideas?

UPDATE: I have another WordPress installation and I just realised THAT one does the same thing too! It’s completely independent, but is on the same server. Clearly it’s a problem with my server. This is something I’m not particularly familiar with.

    Any clues?

Have you contacted your hosting provider about this?

I just did. Turns out they have a block on overseas IP addresses accessing such folders (relevant because I am travelling). They have kindly lifted this restriction for me! All solved.

    Excellent, I’m glad it wasn’t us. ??
