I have wp-simple-firewall installed but I am unable to login to my externally hosted website https://www.cura.org.uk as I keep getting the message ‘Login Cooldown in effect. You must wait 10 seconds before attempting to login again’. Even after waiting the prescribed time I can’t log in. So I am unable to edit and manage my website blog. I could reload the plugin via ftp but would still need access to WordPress to activate it – and I’m not sure if that would be the way to cure this.

I’m currently working on the cooldown feature as several people have reported there’s an issue with it. If you are in-fact locked out, you can turn off the plugin features using this method on FTP:

I hope to have a release today to address this issue. Sincere apologies for this problem.

I’ve tried this fix (adding forceOff) using ftp but it does not seem to work. I’ve accessed several pages of my site, but on coming back to the login page I still get the same cooldown message

I’ve just released an update here to address this problem. To help you get logged in, you can do 2 things:

1st) Try deleting the file: mode.login_throttled
Then try logging into your site. If you can, please upgrade your plugin to the new latest version.

2nd) If you still cannot login, please rename the plugin folder and WordPress will disable the plugin entirely for you.

My sincere apologies for this problem – I’ve worked hard to try and ensure this plugin would never cause lock-outs.

Do I have to delete forceOff and add a file fornceOn?

I’ve used option 2 and it worked!. I’ll install the update and try again. Fingers crossed…

Update worked. Thanks. Hopefully ok from now on.

Okay great! That’s a huge relief to say the least!

I think there was a quirk in the combination of:
    admin access restriction
    +
    login cooldown

and maybe with file read-write permissions.

Hard to say exactly, but I’m hopeful that this fix will resolve the issue moving forward.

Once again, sincere apologies for the outage and the inconvenience.

Thanks for your patience and reporting back that it’s working.
    Paul.
