Using the Messenger button in a website causes a lot of problems for guest users.
Here you will see a summary per browser.
Chrome:
After starting the chat and after continuing as a guest this happens:
- Sometimes a dialogue window appears showing “Not logged in” and then I have to login. But after less than 1 second this window disappears. Strange.
- Then two things can happen:
- often a Message “Sorry, something went wrong” appears. When I click the “Go Back” link I will see a message that FaceBook has rejected the connection.
- In case there is no error like the previous bullet, the normal chat window is shown.
It also happens that after clicking the Start button and clicking “Continue as Guest” that the user returns to the Start button. After several attempts the chat window appears and the user can start the chat.
A third issue here is that sometimes the start screen is refreshing every 5 seconds.
Firefox.
After starting the chat and after continuing as a guest this happens:
- A dialogue window appears showing “Not logged in” and then I have to login.
- But after a few seconds a new window disappears with the message “Firefox Can’t Open This Page. To protect your security, https://www.facebook.com will not allow Firefox to display the page if another site has embedded it. To see this page, you need to open it in a new window.”
- When I click “Open Site in new window” in this window I see an error “This Page Isn’t Available”.
- In other cases when I don’t see the message ”Firefox Can’t Open This Page”, I see that after “Not logged in” the Start screen appears again.
Edge:
After starting the chat and after continuing as a guest I will see the chat window with the message that the content of the chat will be available for 24 hours.
This is what I expected.
You will understand this is not very encouraging for users and the majority will stop trying to chat.
I hope FB will fix these problems very soon.
