Login from a page in the site doesn’t redirect

I’m working on a site and in the layout I have the login form – so it’s across the whole site.
When a user logs in, the page just refreshes with them logged in, it doesn’t forward them to the page. I’ve setup a new role in the site and I’m trying to redirect everyone with that role.
I should also note that logging out on the page also just refreshes the page. Using the logout in the WP top bar will, however, redirect the user to the correct page.
