Everything works fine but for one oddity. Logging in sometimes doesn’t work first time, but trying again does.

I’d seen the issue before but when a retry works you assume you made a typo first time, however a member reported the same issue yesterday so I did some testing.

On further investigation there’s a loop: Login>fail; Login>success; Log out; Login>fail; Login>success; Log out… etc i.e. alternate logins work. Not browser dependent (Edge/Chrome/FFox/Opera current versions).

And what coders really hate is happening – it’s an intermittent issue: yesterday I had the problem, today I can’t make it fail however hard I try. Nothing has changed since yesterday, not rebooted the PC, not updated WP or any plugins.

In the circumstances I know it’s a long-shot but any thoughts?

    SWPM: Version 4.0.3
    WP: version: 5.6
Theme: Twenty Eleven Version 3.6 (with child theme)

    Hi,

Everything works fine but for one oddity. Logging in sometimes doesn’t work first time, but trying again does.

Do you have a cache plugin running in the site or your server?

    Thank you

Cache: yes. Next time I’m logged into the server I’ll see what happens if I suspend that.

I had another thought though. I’d been focussed on the server side of the problem, I wonder if it could be my PC as I realise I had made a significant change yesterday, moving from Kaspersky internet security to Bitlocker. Security packages do have a habit of looking at web-traffic, blocking malware sites for example, I wonder if that could have been interfering somehow.
