• The fatal login bug has struck me, and before anyone asks, yes I’ve done all the tricks you’ve pointed out before, clearing out cookies, commenting out lines of code, chaning passwords, changing them back in phpmyadmin and it’s still not working

any assistance would be nice, i’m running 1.5 01/04/05

    no one?

    I must say, I’m rather appalled…

Appalled by what? You are using a beta version of WordPress, so issues are to be expected.

yes, all very well, but after reading about this particular, and oh so GLARING, issue for the best part of this month, I’d assume, perhaps foolishly, that it would be sorted out by the powers that be…

I mean, being unable to login to your WP install, beta or not, seems like a very important error on someones part, all I’m asking for is some help in accomplishing this simple feat

I don’t have any problems logging in to my stable install of 1.2.2. The issue that you are having is being worked on, as well as many other issues and enhancements. Unfortunately it’s part of the risk involved in beta versions, so I don’t see why you are ticked off knowing this. Check for some of the forum threads as some have posted changes to some specific files which have helped them to resolve this issue.

    Also, patience is always appreciated.

You could try to help us find the problem. The problem, you see, is that almost everyone can login, and so we like to think that it should be a problem with particular server setups or such.

You could stop moaning and start providing some details about what all you have tried (you have tried to), and to say what you’d be willing to do to help find a solution. Unless I personally can try and recreate the problem, I cannot take a potshot at answering your support question, and remember, no one’s getting paid for support here, and no one’s paying. If you need professional help and are willing to pay for it, there are venues for that, but until 1.5 is stable, so more people use it and you can find a solution to your problem, you have to be EXTREMELY patient, and I’d honestly suggest you stop using beta software, if you are not willing to take it for granted that you will have problems – lots of problems – most of which you should be able to report in a professional not-so-rude manner, or fix yourself, and submit patches.

If you’re appalled, think of what people trying to help others in the past time would be feeling when they read such statements – and you expect help?

Well, I’m on version 1.2.2 and I have the same problem. I did the cookie thing and tried to change my password thru the database, and checked the options setting.

I’m think it might be something with one of the plugins.

    ok, simply put…

I’ve searched these forums for people with similar problems, and I’ve tried everything that people have advised them to do

I’ve downloaded a newer version of wp-login and commented out lines that needed to be commented out… no luck

I’ve downloaded an older version of wp-login and commented out lines that needed to be commented out… no luck

I’ve cleared out my cookies on firefox, opera, netscape and IE, no such luck

I’ve changed the password in phpMyAdmin, no luck

I’ve changed the password back in phpMyAdmin, no luck

I’ve checked and double checked the site URL in phpMyAdmin, it hasn’t changed

I’ve done everything described here : https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Login_Trouble including trying Sexygirlgeeka€?s wp-login fix, no such luck

I can’t go back to 1.2.2 as I dont have the backup database anymore, after a few weeks of using 1.5, I assumed everything was going swimmingly, until last night

It’s currently running on a windows box buried deep in Colorado, running windows 2003 server (as far as I know), PHP Version 4.3.1, MySql (no idea)

and sorry for being rude earlier, i’m just very frustrated

Thanks for the additional info…and we’ve all been frustrated to the point of being rude. Many of us who support this forum get frustrated because frankly, sometimes we don’t have an answer. We will get through this issue, however, but it may take some time.
    Your continued patience is appreciated.

Are you able to log on to your server and do some file maintenance? I’m wondering what would happen if you temporarily removed all of the plugin files from wp-content/plugins? Just a wild guess!

    (@gregorsmith)

I just tried that and it’s still coming back with the redirect…

oh, I forgot to mention it’s in a subfolder, would that make a difference?

What was the last thing that you did to the blog ?

Has your host changed anything AT ALL ?

Have you asked someone from another machine to try ? (This nails it to being a wp/server issue, but your machine)

No answers I know, but trying to rule things out as well as in.

I was using my laptop, I had to clean out the cache of firefox, it stopped after that, i think the cookie from the old 1.2.2 install was still letting me in

Nothing has changed with the host, I just never had to login to 1.5 before

If it is cookies, then this thread might possibly have something in that’s of use as it came down to cookies.

    Worth a quick look ?

    (@gregorsmith)

I’m gonna try a fresh install of the latest nightly, see if that helps clear things up

    Thread Starter gregorsmith

    (@gregorsmith)

Success… a fresh install followed by a database dump into a new database sorted it out!

how? i have no idea, but it’s working and thats all that matters
