Login password and new password won't work in admin

  • I cannot get into my admin login. I tried to change the password and WordPress sent a number of emails to my email address. The link they sent just directs me back to the login. So WordPress sends me another email –back to the login. Finally I get a new password that does NOT WORK! My new login and password also would not work in wordpress.com. I finally got a new password to work in the .org Is it me or is it the twilight zone? Sorry, I cannot remember the version of WordPress I have now–it was recently updated.

    OK, first thing: a wordpress.com login/password will not work on a www.ads-software.com install (and vice versa). They operate from entirely different databases.

    Can you supply the URL of the blog so others can see what version of WP it is?

    @artistbeth1: OK, “View Page Source” tells me that the version is WordPress 3.0. This probably doesn’t matter yet if you can get the normal password recovery procedure to work.

    The normal procedure is that WP will send you one email to confirm that you really do want to change the password, which happens when you click on the unique link it gives you that takes you to the login page. You will not be able to log in after this first email, so don’t try.

    Then WP should send you a second email with a new password – now you should be able to log in with that password (which you should then change to something different ASAP).
