    Short answer: No. s2Member works with custom s2Member roles, so as to leave default WP roles free for their regular uses.

    Longer answer: if you install the Capability Manager Enhanced plugin, you can add whatever capabilities you want to an s2Member role, so that it could then then become functionally equivalent to that of a Contributor, if you wish.
