    Good day!

Your plugin rocks! I need help, however, with one small issue …

When I send our newsletter to Gmail accounts, our company logo (transparent) shows up with a black background. With other email clients, however, it displays great.

    Details (Gmail): https://prnt.sc/JfQJLbMdeWYQ
    Details (Other Email Clients): https://prnt.sc/HHeJZvpwJR5l

I right-clicked and downloaded our logo in all cases, and noticed that the downloaded image in Gmail is in png format. In all other email clients, it’s in webp format.

What am I doing wrong? How can I fix this?

FYI, all of our images are being converted to webp format by SG Optimizer (plugin) and served via Cloudflare (webp compatible).

    Thank you.

    Almost forgot …

The above only happens on desktop mode. On mobile devices and tablets, the logo displays just fine. Strange!

    Thank you.

    Correction:

Gmail is converting our png images to jpeg images (as viewed in desktop mode).

    Yikes!

    Another Update:

We converted our logo to webp format, inserted it into our newsletter template, but Gmail still converted it to jpeg format (desktop mode only).

    Ouch!

    Hello @generosus ,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Although we would love to ensure the emails will be rendered properly on all email clients, it’s not always possible as we can’t control it for some email clients.

As you’ve stated Gmail is making this conversion, I’d also want you to explore how the images are converted and uploaded. If it’s showing correctly when on mobile and tablet mode then I’d suspect the image conversion you’re using might be the issue.

Try saving the image in PNG format, upload it directly into your WP-Admin > Media, and add it to your newsletter then see if the PNG format is being kept.

    I hope this helps.

    Have a great day!

    Hi @geraltrivia,

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. Yes, we understand that.

Also, we tried your suggestion. No dice. We uploaded our logo image in webp format as well, but still having the issue.

We’ll reach out to MP offline to verify they can replicate our issue, etc.

Any updates or useful info will be reported here ??

    Again, thank you.

    SOLVED:

Issue fixed after performing the following:

    (1) Activated the Imagick extension within our PHP settings (click here for details).

    (2) We re-converted all of our WP Media Library images from JPEG/PNG to WEBP using the SG Optimizer plugin. Most likely, some of our images were corrupt or updated to meet the latest version of Gd (click here for details)

    (3) Cleared all cache.

Additional details sent via email to MailPoet Support.

    Thank you.

    ALTERNATE SOLUTION:

When using PNG images in newsletters, ensure they are unique and not converted to WebP images prior to transmitting the newsletter.

Gmail does not like PNG images that have been converted to WebP — especially those that contain a transparent background.

This turned out to be the most reliable solution.

    Cheerio!
