Logo resizing issues

whenever i put a logo with the dimensions of at least 500 x 150px, it turns out too big so i try to cut it in half. When i did the logo obviously lost it’s quality and became very pixalised even though it fits correctly on the header.

One solution i thought it might work is to leave it i it’s original dimensions and get it a max-height and a max-width inside of the tool editor.

Problem is i do not know how to do that or where to find it.
